Stacks of Wheat (Sunset, Snow Effect)

The Art Institute has the largest group of Monet’s "Stacks of Wheat" paintings in the world. The artist worked on the canvases in the field outside his farmhouse, painting simultaneously at several easels; he later refined them in the studio. An exhibition of these works in 1891 marked a breakthrough in Monet’s career, as well as in the history of French art.
